ARTICLE: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAP AND HIP-HOP

For years, the debate has ensued about what exactly the difference is between rap music and hip hop music, and the main crux of the argument centers around the type of culture that each type of music personifies. Other factors, though, are also included, such as: how the music is produced, the elements associated with the sound of the music, and what each genre tries to get across in its central message.

Historically, Hip Hop comprises 4 elements, 1 of which is rap, as outlined by DJ Afrikaa Bambaataa. The four elements of Hip Hop are DJing, MCing (a.k.a. rapping), B-Boying (a.k.a. break-dancing) and graffiti writing.

Ask any two artists, fans, or other assorted members of the rap/hip-hop community to explain the precise difference between the two terms, and odds are you'll get different answers. Even so, most would probably agree that rap describes a type of music while hip-hop refers to a cultural phenomenon that includes graffiti, breakdancing, and fashion in addition to music -- or as rapper social theorist KRS-One says, "Rap is something you do, hip-hop is something you live." Musically, the only difference between the two is that rap always contains the vocal element of rhythmically spoken rhymes while hip-hop can be purely instrumental in nature. Rap in its earliest stages consisted of DJs mixing records and juggling beats and breaks for block parties while emcees rhymed over the rhythms. This practice of adapting, dissecting, and transforming pre-recorded music to create new songs could be hip-hop's most significant contribution to modern music.

Hip hop culture is defined by the late '70s, early '80s beat-box style of music where groups like Sugarhill Gang, Fab 5 Freddy, and Kurtis Blow. These artists, and many more just like them, sang in upbeat tones that told people to get off their seats and dance to the music. Their message was more of a positive, brighter future type of ballad. Rap, on the other hand, is more concerned with what is going on in popular culture. Current rap stars like Eminem, 50 Cent, and Lil' Wayne frequently rap about the prevalence of drug dealing where they are from, political issues that they disagree with, or general elements of impropriety amongst the perceived leaders of this nation.

Whereas hip hop strives to push its listeners to look forward to a better tomorrow, rap music is all about "telling it like it is" in the here and now. one of the greatest rap groups of all-time, N.W.A., sang of their hardcore lifestyle which was the only way to survive where they were from. They were often ostracized in popular music circles, but they were simply rapping about the current day's conditions. on the other hand, a song like "Rapper's Delight" from The Sugarhill Gang encouraged people to have a good time with their lives and stressed that only good things were going to happen in the future.

While it is true that rap music tends to have a more depressive outlook than hip hop music, the two terms get interchanged so much in the current day and age that it becomes difficult to decipher what the real difference is. While it would be impossible to pinpoint one particular difference that shows us unequivocally what the difference is between rap and hip hop, our perceived notions of what separates the two will continue the great debate about what is the true difference between these two types of music.

NEWS: B.O.C'S #NOENGLISH PROJECT STOLEN ???

Beehive's Rap Maestro B.O.C Madaki's album project titled NO ENGLISH which was scheduled to drop by the end of this month has been stolen. His intellectual property was swindled out of the studio he currently does most of his work. The dread-wearing artists stated this via his facebook account.
Read below :-

"The NO ENGLISH MIXTAPE & ALBUM's Expected By Virtually Everyone To Drop By The Last Week Of November 2015.We Have Just But Few Days Before This Month Runs Out But The Project Release News Hasn't Even Started Buzzing On Any Of All The Appropriate Publicity Media.
With A Great Depth Of Apology,I Announce On Behalf Of My Management That The NO ENGLISH Mixtape & Album Cannot Be Released At The Same Time Anymore As A Result Of The Theft Of The Studio Gadget(Hard Disk) That Contains Like 75% Of The Project Which Makes Postponement A Necessity. The NO ENGLISH Mixtape Is Now Set To Drop On The 18th Day Of December 2015 And The Album Drops Later Next Year.
I know it's one of those challenges that'd surely be overcome."

However, he stated further that he will be releasing another single. He recently dropped one earlier this month titled KING KUNTA which caused a lot of media frenzy. He stated this on his facebook account with a date set already.
"A New Song By B.O.C Comes Your Way On 6/12/2015,Anticipate

After successful hits  like "WHY SEXY GIRL" and "LOVER OVERDOSE" in the past Peter Gyams popularly called peGYAMzee is back, bigger, better and re brand now as and hausa rapper with this dope tune "INTERNATIONAL"(reason my matter local).
The midi tempo song was produced by GID and peGYAMzee  delivering a hook both in English/Yoruba and still punch the two verses well with his hausa flow.

NEWS: TAGWAYEN ASALI IN THE LIMELIGHT

When you are asked who are the most successful group ever in Nigeria, the first thing that will come into your mind are the two-twin brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye (a.k.a P-Square). Interestingly, they are products of the North (Jos, Plateau State specifically).

There are equally two-twin brothers who are making the media go frenzy from the north down to the south. They are identical twin brothers. Identical brothers in the sense that what they wear, eat, how they smile, interact and live their life is/are almost identical.
They were born in Kano State, one studied English Education while the other studied Public Administration. They have won a lot of accolades. They have hosted a TV series program. They have shared the stage with top music arts. They are not relenting. They have met with a lot of bigwigs in the music industry.

They are non other than TAGWAYEN ASALI a.k.a AREWA IDENTICAL.

Hassan and Husseini are the rarest Hausa twin-duo in the music scene. They started singing professionally in 2003. After releasing their debut album titled "GYARA KAYAN KA", they switched from the Hausa Contemporary Music to the Hausa R&B/Pop Genre. They are currently pushing their work titled DESTINY which featured FINESSE ENTERTAINMENT's ClassiQ in the REMIX.

The song is talking about how he started his music thing. If you wanna take a ride with this flaming emcee on his past experience, you need to get yourself armed with seat belts, oxygen mask and some first aid box. Don't get it twisted, you will only use them to treat his punchy dope lines.
