NEWS: AMMA NOMINATION FORM IS FREE

AMMA NOMINATION FORM IS FREE,IT'S NOT FOR SALE-CEMS C.E.O

HAUSA HIP-HOP BLOG paid a visit to CEMS NIGERIA LIMITED. They happen to be the organizers of AMMA/KANNYWOOD AWARDS. With the company busy preparing to host its 3rd edition, Hausa HipHop Blog had the opportunity of interviewing with its C.E.O Mr. Abdulkadir Abdulrahman. This was how the interview went.

EXCERPTS
HHHB: - It has been over 29 days since the official unveiling of the AMAA AWARDS WEBSITE. The site has over 166,000 visits. What do you have to say about this?

A.A: - Thank you very much. It shows that AMMA has been accepted by the entertainment industry as people are identifying with this project. Basically, the mission and the motive of this project is to appreciate the northern talent (artists). Also, it serves as a means for these talents to be appreciated, to know they are loved and for the artists to work harder for other global appreciation. It is a very good development, not for the organizers of this event but for the entire Arewa entertainment industry.

HHHB: - What are the present challenges AMMA (CEMS NIGERIA LTD) is/are facing towards the organization of this event?

A.A: - The basic challenge we are facing is sponsorship. It makes no sense for event organizations to be relying on sponsors. If the government was to sponsor such projects, it would have been a lot easier for us as an event company. But due to the current situation we find ourselves, we have no option but to rely on sponsorship. Nonetheless, there are companies, individuals and other agencies that have shown interest in this project, but they are not willing to assist until few days to the event. So we have to rally round, double our effort to get all logistics sorted out before they come in.

HHHB: - Do you presently have sponsors for this particular event?

A.A: Actually we have sponsors, potential sponsors and contributors which I may not mention their names now because they prefer to remain anonymous for now. But we do have sponsors. Yes.

HHHB: - Back to the awards. The viewer’s choice category award is one aspect of the event that stroked the attention of the entertainers in the industry. What has been the outcome so far?

A.A:-We made this edition a special edition because we believe as time changes, we also have to change and adapt. It is part of our initiative to reframe this project. People are already used to categories like most popular actor/actress, etc; we felt we should initiate something spectacular; which gave birth to the Viewers’ Choice Category. There are almost 17 categories accessible on our website (www.ammawards.com). Amma is working so hard to let the general public know that we at Arewa can host bigger events like this. So far, the response has been impressive.

HHHB: - With 17 categories comprising of both movie and music, which category do you think is the most interesting?

A.A:- Well (smiling and stuttering)…… the two categories are all interesting honestly. You see, in terms of voting, I would say the music category has been more active based on what we have seen on our website.

HHHB:-The site has been experiencing some hiccups due to heavy traffic of people logging/accessing the site. How is AMMA (CEMS NIG. LTD) addressing the situation?

A.A:-AMMA is now a household name on the mouth of music and movie consumers. We do appreciate the effort of the media, stakeholders and the general public. On two occasions, we had some issues with our website. The influx of people into the site has been alarming. What we did was to extend our bandwidth. The bandwidth was a bit low when we started. We never anticipated that people would be visiting the site at such rate.  But now, we have extended our bandwidth which should last for the next 12 months.

HHHB:- Apart from the Viewers’ Choice Category, there are other categories. How many entries have you received from these categories so far?

A.A:- As you can see (pointing at his table), I am working on some of the entries submitted on a spread sheet. We have over 350 entries received. Going by projection, we are expecting as much as 600 entries before the closing date.

HHHB:- What was the figure for last year’s edition?

A.A:- Last year, we had about 200 entries.

HHHB:- We can vividly say that there is a positive progression?

A.A:- Yes!

HHHB:- How many awards are you giving awarding in total?

A.A:- 78 awards. The Viewers’ Category has 17, the movies 35, music is 15 and the Special Awards has 11 totaling about 78.

HHHB:- Where can music/movie professionals get there forms most especially for those who want to participate?

A.A:- Go to Film house Cinema, Ado Bayero Mall which is located at Zoo Road Kano City, Kano State to grab a copy. It is absolutely free. Don’t pay a dime to collect as the forms are not for sale.

HHHB:- For those interested in sponsorship, how can you be reached?

A.A:- We can be reached through these numbers.

MUSIC: 2 FLESH THE D.O.A - INDA MUKA JE

2 FLESH THE D.O.A
It's so difficult seeing a trio group these days. With a long research, we doubt if there is ONE in Nigeria presently. Guess what! There exists only but one at the moment.
2 FLESH THE D.O.A is one fantastic group comprising of three unique rap talents. SKYLEX, DAC TUGE AND B.O.G are three outstanding members putting their last effort in this enthralling song titled ''INDA MUKA JE''. The song's literal definition or meaning rather is ''WHERE WE'VE BEEN''. These hardcore rappers are thorough breeds.

This song is packed with massive punch lines. Their delivery is awesome. In terms of metaphors, you only need to listen. Here are some selected few below:-
"I’m on fire, ku kira yan kwanan kwana","I take you up, don’t bring me down", "Ladies calling me your Highness, I'm so addicted to my business”,” Hardcore ta karfi da yaji".

The trio group is currently working on the visuals to this energy-rich track. All you need in this song is that extra hardcore feel and I’m telling you, just download and listen straight up.

The statistics so far has been in the favor of Nasiim Umoru who is leading with 3081 votes (76%). He is followed by Tagwayen Asali who have managed to rake up 554 votes (13.7%). For years, the debate has ensued about what exactly the difference is between rap music and hip hop music, and the main crux of the argument centers around the type of culture that each type of music personifies. Other factors, though, are also included, such as: how the music is produced, the elements associated with the sound of the music, and what each genre tries to get across in its central message.

Historically, Hip Hop comprises 4 elements, 1 of which is rap, as outlined by DJ Afrikaa Bambaataa. The four elements of Hip Hop are DJing, MCing (a.k.a. rapping), B-Boying (a.k.a. break-dancing) and graffiti writing.

Ask any two artists, fans, or other assorted members of the rap/hip-hop community to explain the precise difference between the two terms, and odds are you'll get different answers. Even so, most would probably agree that rap describes a type of music while hip-hop refers to a cultural phenomenon that includes graffiti, breakdancing, and fashion in addition to music -- or as rapper social theorist KRS-One says, "Rap is something you do, hip-hop is something you live." Musically, the only difference between the two is that rap always contains the vocal element of rhythmically spoken rhymes while hip-hop can be purely instrumental in nature. Rap in its earliest stages consisted of DJs mixing records and juggling beats and breaks for block parties while emcees rhymed over the rhythms. This practice of adapting, dissecting, and transforming pre-recorded music to create new songs could be hip-hop's most significant contribution to modern music.

Hip hop culture is defined by the late '70s, early '80s beat-box style of music where groups like Sugarhill Gang, Fab 5 Freddy, and Kurtis Blow. These artists, and many more just like them, sang in upbeat tones that told people to get off their seats and dance to the music. Their message was more of a positive, brighter future type of ballad. Rap, on the other hand, is more concerned with what is going on in popular culture. Current rap stars like Eminem, 50 Cent, and Lil' Wayne frequently rap about the prevalence of drug dealing where they are from, political issues that they disagree with, or general elements of impropriety amongst the perceived leaders of this nation.

Whereas hip hop strives to push its listeners to look forward to a better tomorrow, rap music is all about "telling it like it is" in the here and now. one of the greatest rap groups of all-time, N.W.A., sang of their hardcore lifestyle which was the only way to survive where they were from. They were often ostracized in popular music circles, but they were simply rapping about the current day's conditions. on the other hand, a song like "Rapper's Delight" from The Sugarhill Gang encouraged people to have a good time with their lives and stressed that only good things were going to happen in the future.

While it is true that rap music tends to have a more depressive outlook than hip hop music, the two terms get interchanged so much in the current day and age that it becomes difficult to decipher what the real difference is. While it would be impossible to pinpoint one particular difference that shows us unequivocally what the difference is between rap and hip hop, our perceived notions of what separates the two will continue the great debate about what is the true difference between these two types of music.

NEWS: AMMA WEBSITE CRASHES!

After the successful launching of AMMA Viewers Choice Award nomination list, viewers/listeners wasted no time in storming their website to vote their favorite contestants. This massive influx of people on their site forced the website to be on a temporary shutdown. When logged into the site, it showed that the bandwidth of the site had been exhausted.

Hausa HipHop Blog wasted no time in contacting the C.E.O Cems Nigeria Ltd. On a phone chat, the C.E.O Mr Abdulrazak Abdulrahman stated that they never expected such massive visit on their website. With over 18,000 visit within 24hours, they had to face this technical issue. He later called for fans and the general public to be patient as the problem would be resolved as soon as possible as we (Hausa HipHop Blog) were talking. The C.E.O promised to get back to me for any further development.

As at 05.55pm, Mr Abdulkadir called Hausa HipHop Blog on phone to notify us first-hand that the site is back as fans can now vote without any hassles.

The site is functional. The viewers choice category can be accessed by logging into AMMA's official website www.ammawards.com under the voting section. Their are 17 categories (both music and movies). Vote for your favorite category now.
